Just 5 miles west of the I-10 Interstate is a 6 acre lake set back in the Ahwatukee Foothills and surrounded by three waterfront communities; Toscano Lakeside, San Simeon Condos, and Miralago at the Foothills. These communities are within walking distance of Desert Foothills Park and the Foothills Golf Club, and just over a mile east of Club West Golf Club. Less than a mile to the south is Pecos Road which offers great accessibility to the 202 and I-10. They are found within the highly rated Kyrene Elementary School District and Tempe Union High School District boundaries.
One Oct. 18, 2011, the new Tempe Town Lake Pedestrian bridge opened, connecting the north and south shores of Tempe Town Lake. The bridge consists of 4 spans, each measuring 228 feet, weighing 165,000 lbs. The bridge protects the bladders of the dam from the sun and contains a built-in sprinkler system to cool the bladders when needed. This was the point of contention when one of the bladders failed on July 20, 2010, that the maintenance had been inadequate. The picture to the left was taken just days after the dam failed and sent over 750 million gallons of water down the Salt River. The lake was dry for 3 months before the dam was repaired and the lake refilled in October 2010.
Waterfront Communities in The Islands
The Islands consists of three separate man made lakes that are boat friendly with over 400 single family home lakeside lots. For those who enjoy the waterways, any three of the lakes provide over 1/2 mile of boating. Many homes are located on lots where the opposite shore is over 200 feet. The location of The Islands is equidistant between the US60, the 202, and the 101 freeways so getting around to any part of Phoenix is not a problem. The Islands cover 2.5 square miles, so you’re bound to find a house that is just right.
When a client asks what is the on-going operating cost of a private pool, I struggle to offer a precise answer. The upfront cost to install a private pool can be determined after a 30 minute consultation with one of the many pool builders in the Phoenix area. But what are the daily operating costs that a homeowner can expect? For luxury homes, a well appointed private pool can be a standard expectation. A family with children may look to a private backyard pool as a essential activity for the children during the 100+ degree summer days common to Phoenix. So what is the day to day cost of this hydrated desert amenity?
