<p> My search this week for waterfront and lake communities in the Phoenix area landed me at CantaMia by <a title="CantaMia by Joseph Carl Homes" href="http://www.josephcarlhomes.com/our_communities/cantamia/" target="_blank">Joseph Carl Homes</a> in Estrella Mountain Ranch in Goodyear.   This active adult retirement lake community features 17 acres of lakes in phase I and 23 acres in phase 2 &amp; 3.  Total homesites at buildout will be just under 1,800.  CantaMia offers 14 home plans that range in size from 1,189 to 2,852 square feet and will also feature its own community center that promises to be one of best in the valley.  CantaMia residents also have access to the impressive<a title="Star Pointe Residents club" href="http://phoenixwaterfronttalk.com/2010/07/15/estrella-mountain-ranch-lakefront-community-in-goodyear/" target="_blank"> Starpointe Residents Club</a>.</p>

<p> Fountain Hills was founded on Dec. 15, 1970, and the city was incorporated on Dec. 5, 1989.  The town covers approximately 20 square miles, or 13,000 acres.  The terrain in Fountain Hills ranges from 1,525 feet to 3,160 feet above sea level.  C.V. Wood Jr. was the developer of Fountain Hills and is responsible for the world famous fountain from which the town takes its name.  The fountain operates daily from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. every hour on the hour.  The lake covers 33 acres and holds approximately one million gallons of water.</p>

<p>At 9:45 pm on  Tuesday,  July 20th, one section of the inflatable dam at Tempe Town Lake burst releasing 750 million gallons into the Salt River.  Since it occured at night nobody was on the lake and one visitor at the west end of the lake was able to capture the <a title="Tempe town lake release" href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wt3IVZ2j-JA" target="_blank">release on video</a>.   The day after the failure, the Town of Tempe and Bridgestone, the manufacturer of the inflatable bladders, squared off and each offered explanations of why the <a title="The Blame Game" href="http://www.azcentral.com/news/articles/2010/07/21/20100721tempe-town-lake-dam-bridgestone-heat.html" target="_blank">other party was at fault</a>.  Obviously, something went wrong somewhere because according to the Town of Tempe  website, &#8220;The bladders have special ozone and ultraviolet ray protection from the southwestern climate and have been tested extensively for durability.&#8221; Bridgestone contends improper maintenance since  the bladders need to be kept moist and cool through the use of a sprinkler system that was not being used at the time of the failure, while the Town of Tempe Mayor counters that the poor design of the dam made it difficult to use the sprinklers effectively.</p>

This will impact such developments as <a title="Bridgeview" href="http://phoenixwaterfronttalk.com/2010/06/01/bridgeview-at-hayden-ferry-lakeside-tempe-town-lake-luxury-waterfront-condos/" target="_blank">Bridgeview</a>, <a title="Edgewater" href="http://phoenixwaterfronttalk.com/2010/05/07/tempe-town-lake-waterfront-condos-at-edgewater/" target="_blank">Edgewater</a> on the south shore, and<a title="Northshore" href="http://phoenixwaterfronttalk.com/2009/01/30/tempe-town-lake-waterfront-condominiums/" target="_blank"> Northshore </a>on the opposite side.The city would like to have the lake filled as not to interupt the annual Ironman Arizona Triathalon that takes place every November.   The water to fill the lake originally was purchased from the Central Arizona Project.  The lake capacity is approximately 1 billion gallons.</p>

<p>The Tumbleweed Recreationa Center is packed with activities, classes, programs and fitnees factilites.   The daily resident adult fee is $4.00, $5  for non-residents.  A monthly pass for residents is $30, and $38 for non-Chandler residents. Children and, youth and teens are less. The 6,000+ sq.ft. fintess center features 46 pieces of cardiovascular equipment.  The 1/10 mile indoor running track loops around the second story of the facility. Two basketball courts are on the lower level as well as raquetball courts.  The Tree House is available for children 1 &#8211; 7 for up to two hours at an additional fee.</p>
<p>The center hosts a variety of classes, camps, and programs for kids and families, including acting classes, arts and crafts, babysitting training and CPR certification, chess, cooking, hip hop, beginner/preschool tap and ballet, preschool tumbling, jazz, drawing, Spanish, racquetball, yoga, parent/child Spanish, parent/child music and movement, Club Pee-Wee, and computers.</p>
