Arizona Urban Fishing Program

If you love to fish but just can’t find the time to leave town, the Fish and Game Department in partnership with the local Parks and Recreation Departments may have solution.  It is a nationally recognized program where 21 local Urban Fishing Program lakes and ponds in 11 Arizona cities are stocked with trout, catfish and sunfish. The thought behind this is if people can’t get out of town to fish, we will bring fish into town for the people.

What’s going on in your Phoenix waterfront lake?

 What kind of fish are in Phoenix man made lakes?

When it comes to maintaining the lakes in Phoenix lake communities, is it done by chemicals or is there a more ecologically balanced way to take care of the lakes?  Dumping chemicals into lakes is expensive and the results are short lived.  The more environmentally friendly solution involves choosing specific species of fish that address the needs of urban man made lakes at a fraction of the costs of chemicals.  You may even call them “utility fish” because of their utilitarian function of keeping the lakes ecologically maintained.
