Gilbert and Chandler Recreation Centers

Now that school is out, finding activities for children and teenagers who now have more time on their hands can be a daunting challenge.  It’s not like you can say “go outside and play or ride you bike”.  If they do in typical summer time 110 degree weather,  they may not make it back.  Read on to find out about some of the recreational centers and public pools available in Gilbert and Chandler.

 

The $6.75 million Freestone Recreation Center provides 50,000 sq.ft. of family focused fun and recreation.  Within the award winning architecture building is a rock climbing wall, 4 racquetball courts, large double gymnasium,  sauna and steam rooms, a running track, dance & aerobics room, childcare center and weight room.  Gilbert residents receive a discount and the facility is open 7 days a week.

The Freestone Recreation Center is part of the larger Freestone Park, the largest of the Town of Gilbert Parks.  It offers multiple soccer fields, two lakes at the center of the park, 4 softball fields, batting cages, lighted sand volleyball courts, 4 basketball courts, 4 tennis courts, and a skate park.  Play areas, an amphitheatre, BBQ grills and ramadas put the finishing touches on this family friendly park.

McQueen Park Activity Center

The 27,000 sq.ft.  McQueen Park Activity Center is host to a gymnasium , game room with Wii, X-box and play station systems, pool table, ping pong, foosball, air hockey, a lobby with a 51″ TV and rooms for leisure pursuit classes.  There is pleny of area to hang out or go outside and walk around the 2 acre lake that is to the west of the center.

Gilbert has four public pools; the Greenfield Pool at Greenfield Jr. High, the Williams Field PoolMesquite Aquatic Center at Mesquite Jr. High,  the Perry Pool located at Perry High School, and the Williams Field Poollocated at Williams Field High School.

 Tumbleweed Recreation Center (TRC)

The largest Chandler recreational facility is located at 2250 S. McQueen at the southwest corner of McQueen and Germann Rd.  The Tumbleweed Recreation Center offers a 60,000 sq.ft. fitness center with more than 40 pieces of cardiovascular equipment, including treadmills, bikes, cross-trainers, strength machines and free weights. There are also two raquetball courts, a gymnasium with 2 basketball courts.  The TRC offers group exercise classes including Zumba, Step, Yoga, Pilates, Strength and more. Class descriptions

Chandler Public Pools

Chandler offers its residents the choice of 6 public pools. They are  the Arrowhead Pool at the Arrowhead Meadows Park near Alma School and Chandler Blvd., the Desert Oasis Aquatic Center   near Palo Verde Park, the Folley Pool, the Hamilton Aquatic Center located next to Hamilton High School, the Mesquite Groves Aquatic Center next to Basha High School, and the Nozomi Aquatic Center.
